How to Go to the Carnegie Museums for Cheap

Of all of the absolutely amazing places that Pittsburgh has to offer, my absolute favorite is the Carnegie Museum of Natural History. I have loved going to the museum since I was quite small. There is so much to see and do, you can spend an entire day just exploring. There is so much inside.

I don’t even know what area of the museum is my favorite. I love all of it. The dinosaur hall, the hall of architecture, and of course all of the natural history are all amazing. I really get a kick out of the “magic doors” upstairs in the hall with the birds on display. So neat to open and close the door over and over again just to see what will appear next.

A close second for me is the Carnegie Science Center. So many hands on things to there for the kids. Another great place to spend the whole day. My favorite there? The robots! Seeing the robot from Lost in Space brings me back to my childhood.

I’ll be honest though, the Carnegie Art Museum is good but can be a bit boring for kids. At least my kids when they were young.

I know what you’re saying. Sounds great but at $25 per person, it is out of my price range. Never fear! I have a solution for you.

If you receive any type of electronic benefits such as SNAP, you qualify for a severely reduced rate.

It’s only $4 per person up to 4 people per visit. You can find out more here.

An even better deal? Get a family membership for the whole year for only $20.

This is a hidden deal on the website that you can find here.

Remember this is only for PA residents that receive public assistance. This membership is good for all 4 museums in Pittsburgh and it also includes admission to other ASTC museums more than 90 miles away. So if you are going on vacation, take your membership card with you. It will come in handy on those rainy days.
